General Fee Information

My base rate is £20 per hour for individual, one-to-one tutoring for any subject at any level. I do significant reductions for group tuition: 2 students pay £15 each, 3 or 4 students pay £10 each, 5 students pay £7 each. Larger groups can be arranged, but the benefit starts going down in most cases.

If I need to travel to you I may need to add an additional charge for the cost of travelling in time and money. This may vary quite a bit depending on where you live, and if it's easy for me to get to you then I probably won't add anything.

If you are studying material at undergraduate level that requires me to do additional research then I'll suggest an additional fee for this.

Please note that these are fees for tuition. If you want me to write software for you, build you a website, play guitar on your hit record, write copy for your brochure or perform some other kind of service then that's a separate discussion, although hopefully not a painful one.

Advance Booking

I especially like students who block-book in advance. Once we've had a few lessons and you're sure you want to continue, book and pay for n hours in advance and you will get a 2n% reduction in the fee. So book 5 hours to get 10% off; book 10 hours and get 20% off. I can't give you more than 20% off on this deal, though...

Alternatively, guitar students who book at least 5 hours' lessons in advance will get a copy of my Encyclopoedia of Scales and Arpeggios for Guitar absolutely free.

Cancellations

Most students have to cancel a lesson at some point. If you give me 48 hours' notice I will charge you nothing (or refund you in full, if you've paid in advance). This gives me enough time to potentially arrange to see another student. If you can't give me this much notice that's OK, but you'll owe me a 15% cancellation fee payable next time we meet. Believe it or not, very occasionally a tutor turns up for a lesson and only then discovers that the lesson is cancelled (sometimes because nobody's home!). If this happens I have to charge you the full fee. Just call me any time before I set off to avoid that.
